Job Purpose

The EMAP Assistant will support the implementation of the EMAP approach under the Resilience and Social Cohesion (Peace) project in Northeast Nigeria. Working closely with the EMAP Officer, the Assistant will help facilitate community sessions, mobilize participants, and provide logistical, administrative, and monitoring support. The role aims to promote positive masculinity, prevent gender-based violence (GBV), and strengthen peaceful coexistence within communities by ensuring smooth delivery of EMAP activities and inclusive participation of men, women, and youth.

Responsibilities

  • Support the EMAP Officer in implementing the
    Engaging Men through Accountable Practice (EMAP)
    approach to prevent GBV and promote gender equality in target communities.
  • Assist in facilitating structured EMAP sessions with male and female participants under the guidance of the EMAP Officer.
  • Mobilize community members and register participants in collaboration with local peace committees (LPCs), religious leaders, and protection staff.
  • Help promote positive masculinity, respectful behaviours, and support for women and girls through guided discussions and sensitization activities.
  • Provide logistical and administrative support during EMAP training, sensitization, and community engagement sessions.
  • Support awareness-raising campaigns, cultural events, and community dialogues aimed at promoting peaceful coexistence and gender equity.
  • Assist in monitoring activities, including attendance tracking, note-taking, and basic feedback collection.
  • Document field observations and contribute to success stories, lessons learned, and reporting to support program improvement.

Requirements

  • Diploma or Certificate in Social Work, Community Development, Gender Studies, Peacebuilding, or related field (a degree is an added advantage).
  • Minimum of 1 year experience in community mobilization, facilitation, or support roles in GBV prevention, peacebuilding, or social cohesion projects.
  • Basic knowledge of gender equality, GBV, and protection principles.
  • Ability to engage respectfully with male community members and promote open dialogue.
  • Experience working with community-based structures (peace clubs, youth groups, LPCs, etc.).
  • Good communication skills in English and fluency in local languages (e.g., Hausa, Kanuri).
  • Demonstrated commitment to accountability, inclusion, and safeguarding standards.
