Job Description

Key Skills and Competencies

  • Strong financial management and accounting skills in a humanitarian or development context.
  • Proficiency in
    QuickBooks
    for financial recording, reporting, and reconciliation.
  • Excellent knowledge of
    donor compliance and reporting requirements
    .
  • Strong analytical, budgeting, and financial forecasting skills.
  • High level of integrity, transparency, and accountability.
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to work under pressure and tight deadlines.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work effectively in complex humanitarian environments.

Key Responsibilities

  • Oversee and manage all financial operations in compliance with organizational policies, donor requirements, and humanitarian standards.
  • Prepare, manage, and monitor project budgets, ensuring effective cost control and value for money.
  • Ensure accurate financial recording, reporting, and reconciliation using
    QuickBooks
    or other approved accounting software.
  • Produce timely and accurate
    financial reports
    for management, donors, and partners.
  • Ensure compliance with donor regulations (e.g., UN agencies, INGOs) and national financial laws.
  • Manage cash flow, bank accounts, and payment processes, including payroll, vendor payments, and statutory deductions.
  • Support audits (internal and external) and ensure timely resolution of audit queries.
  • Strengthen internal control systems and financial risk management processes.
  • Provide financial guidance to program teams to support effective project implementation.
  • Supervise and build the capacity of finance and support staff.

Qualifications and Requirements 

  • Bachelor’s degree in
    Accounting, Finance, Economics, or a related field
    .
  • Professional qualification such as
    ICAN
    or
    ANAN
    is an added advantage.
  • Minimum of
    5 years’ relevant experience
    , preferably in a humanitarian or NGO setting.
  • Proven experience in managing donor-funded projects.
  • Strong knowledge of Nigerian financial regulations, new tax law and other statutory requirements.
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel and other financial management tools.
