Job Description

Our client, a diversified Nigerian business offering vital services in retail, manufacturing, logistics, finance, agriculture, real estate, and international trade is looking to hire a Group Head, Human Resources (GHHR) who will be a key member of the executive leadership team, responsible for shaping and executing a group-wide people, leadership, and culture strategy that directly supports commercial performance, operational efficiency, and long-term sustainability. The GHHR provides strategic leadership across all human capital functions, ensuring that talent, workforce structure, performance management, and culture are aligned with the Group’s strategic and financial objectives.

Responsibilities

Group HR Strategy & Governance

  • Develop and implement a group-wide HR strategy aligned with business objectives; establish HR governance frameworks across subsidiaries; act as principal advisor to executive management.

Talent, Leadership & Succession

  • Provide strategic oversight for talent acquisition; design succession planning and leadership pipelines; oversee learning and leadership development initiatives.

Workforce Planning & Cost Management

Lead manpower planning and headcount budgeting; partner with Finance on people cost control; govern

compensation and benefits frameworks.

Performance Management & Culture

  • Design group performance management frameworks; drive a high-performance culture; champion employee engagement and values.

Employee Relations & Compliance

  • Provide leadership on industrial relations and dispute resolution; ensure labour law compliance; engage unions and regulators as required.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree from a recognized institution. Master’s degree is a plus.
  • Minimum of 10 years’ relevant experience in industrial relations, personnel management, training programmes, talent acquisition and HR strategy design in reputable private sector organizations. 
  • Professional certification in HR management (SPHR, GPHR etc). 
  • Background in the manufacturing and FMCG sectors will be an added advantage.
  • Strong understanding of Nigerian and international labour laws and regulations.
  • Proficiency in HR planning, organizational design and use and application of HR tools (including AI).

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent communication and leadership abilities.
  • Ability to work under pressure and manage complex financial projects.
  • Attention to detail and strong organizational skills.
