Job Description

Job Summary:

We are seeking a dynamic and experienced

Head of Human Resources
to lead the HR function of a Nigerian Multinational NGO, which operates across multiple states in Nigeria in the sectors of
health, and education. 
The ideal candidate will be responsible for developing and implementing HR strategies that support organizational growth, staff wellbeing and development, and operational excellence. This role reports directly to the
Country Manager
and plays a key role in shaping the organization’s culture and workforce strategy.

Key Responsibilities:

Strategic HR Leadership

  • Develop and execute HR strategies aligned with the NGO’s mission and strategic goals.
  • Advise executive management on workforce planning, talent development, and organizational design.
  • Lead change management initiatives and support organizational growth.

Talent Acquisition & Development

  • Oversee recruitment, onboarding, and retention strategies for staff across all project locations.
  • Design and implement training programs to build capacity and enhance staff performance.
  • Promote career development and succession planning.

Employee Relations & Engagement

  • Foster a positive and inclusive work environment across diverse teams.
  • Manage employee relations, conflict resolution, and disciplinary processes.
  • Lead staff engagement initiatives and feedback mechanisms.

HR Operations & Compliance

  • Ensure compliance with Nigerian labour laws and donor requirements.
  • Oversee payroll, benefits administration, and HRIS systems.
  • Maintain accurate HR records and reporting for internal and external stakeholders.
  • Ensure HR compliance when dealing with expatriate staff

Policy & Culture Development

  • Develop and update HR policies, procedures, and employee handbooks.
  • Champion organizational values and promote a culture of accountability, equity, and impact.

Qualifications & Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or related field (Master’s preferred).
  • Professional HR certification (e.g., CIPM, SHRM, HRCI) is highly desirable.
  • Minimum of 8–10 years of progressive HR experience, with at least 3 years in a leadership role.
  • Experience working in the NGO or development sector is strongly preferred.
  • Strong understanding of Nigerian labour laws and HR best practices.
  • Excellent multitasking, interpersonal, communication, and leadership skills.
  • High level of emotional intelligence; ability to interact with diverse local backgrounds and cultures
  • Multinational experience preferred as the role involves interactions with expatriate staff
