Job Description

Job Summary

The Laboratory Supervisor is responsible for overseeing daily laboratory operations related to petroleum, petrochemical, and related product testing. The role ensures compliance with international standards, quality control procedures, and client requirements while supervising laboratory staff and maintaining operational efficiency.

Key Responsibilities

  • Supervise and coordinate daily laboratory testing activities (crude oil, refined products, petrochemicals, etc.).
  • Ensure all testing is conducted in accordance with international standards such as ASTM, IP, ISO, and client-specific requirements.
  • Monitor laboratory performance, productivity, and turnaround time.
  • Review and validate test results before issuance to clients.
  • Ensure compliance with quality management systems (ISO 17025) and internal SOPs.
  • Maintain laboratory equipment calibration and preventive maintenance schedules.
  • Oversee safety compliance and ensure adherence to HSE policies and procedures.
  • Train, mentor, and evaluate laboratory analysts and technicians.
  • Investigate non-conformities, implement corrective actions, and support audits (internal and external).
  • Manage laboratory consumables and inventory control.
  • Coordinate with operations, inspection teams, and clients regarding testing requirements and priorities.

Qualifications & Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in chemistry, Chemical Engineering, or related scientific field.
  • Minimum 5–7 years of laboratory experience in the oil & gas inspection and testing industry.
  • Minimum 2 years of supervisory experience.
  • Strong knowledge of petroleum testing standards (ASTM, IP, ISO).
  • Experience with ISO 17025 quality systems.
  • Familiarity with laboratory instruments such as GC, HPLC, distillation units, flash point testers, sulfur analyzers, etc.
  • Strong leadership, organizational, and communication skills.
  • Ability to work under pressure and meet strict turnaround deadlines.
