Job Description

Department: Supply Chain Operations
Reports to: Logistics and Operations Manager 

Job Purpose

The Logistics Driver is responsible for driving company vehicles, ensuring the timely and secure delivery of goods, providing last-mile delivery services, and managing car hire operations. The role also includes vehicle maintenance responsibilities, ensuring that vehicles are well-maintained and meet all safety and operational standards for logistics activities.

Key Responsibilities

  • Safely operate company vehicles to transport health commodities, medical supplies, and other goods to health facilities and other designated locations.
  • Ensure timely last-mile delivery, meeting delivery schedules and customer expectations while maintaining safety and adherence to traffic regulations.
  • Verify that deliveries are complete, including the right items, quantities, and documentation (Proof of Delivery, etc.), and ensure accurate reporting.
  • Assist in loading and unloading goods as required and handle items with care, especially medical equipment and pharmaceuticals.
  • Perform routine checks to ensure that all delivery requirements are met, such as vehicle capacity, item conditions, and proper documentation.
  • Operate company vehicles available for car hire operations as needed.
  • Ensure that all vehicles are clean, well-maintained, and ready for use when required for hire services.
  • Assist with scheduling and coordinating car hire activities, ensuring that vehicles are deployed and returned in a timely and efficient manner.
  • Conduct daily vehicle inspections before and after trips, reporting any maintenance issues, damage, or accidents immediately to the Fleet Supervisor.
  • Ensure all vehicles are serviced and maintained regularly according to the company’s vehicle maintenance schedule.
  • Maintain cleanliness and organization of the vehicle, ensuring that it meets safety and regulatory requirements.
  • Keep accurate records of vehicle maintenance, fuel usage, mileage, and any other relevant operational data.
  • Ensure all safety equipment (e.g., first aid kits, fire extinguishers) is available and in good condition in the vehicle.
  • Adhere to all traffic laws, regulations, and company policies related to driving and transportation.
  • Ensure that all required documentation ( Vehicle log Sheet records) is properly filled out and submitted on time.
  • Maintain proper records for fuel usage, mileage, and other operational details as required by the logistics team.
  • Cooperate with supervisors and administrative staff to ensure seamless operations and provide reports as requested.
  • Provide excellent customer service by interacting professionally with clients, health facility staff, and other stakeholders.

Skills and Qualifications

  • Education: Minimum of a high school diploma. Additional training in logistics or vehicle maintenance is an advantage.
  • Experience: At least 2 years of experience as a driver, preferably in a Health logistics
  • Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record.
  • In-depth knowledge of road safety and traffic laws.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.

Work Environment

  • The Logistics Driver will be required to work primarily in the field, driving company vehicles to various locations, including health facilities.
  • The role may require extended hours, including weekends, depending on operational needs.
