Maintenance Technician at a Geochemical Laboratory – Abuja at boQS Ltd

We are a lean, fast-moving, and tech-driven laboratory launching in Abuja to provide world-class analytical services to the mining and exploration sector.  

Do you have skills and work experience in maintaining Jaw Crushers, Riffle/Rotary Splitters and Pulverizers (Ring and Puck Mill)?

The Role:

1. Keeping our heavy-duty crushers and pulverizers running 24/7.
2. Must-have: Mechanical/Electrical background and a "fix-it-before-it-breaks" attitude.

Main responsibilities

1. Preventative Maintenance: Execute daily, weekly, and monthly maintenance schedules for Jaw Crushers, Pulverizers (Ring and Puck mills), Core Saws, and Rotary Splitters.
2. Mechanical Troubleshooting:
   Identify and repair mechanical failures, replace worn parts (e.g., jaw plates, drive belts, bearings), and calibrate sample dividers to ensure unbiased splitting.
3. Contamination Control: Implement and enforce rigorous cleaning protocols (using compressed air, vacuum systems, or "wash" sand) between every sample to prevent cross-contamination.
4. Consumables Management:
   Track the wear-life of grinding media (Chrome steel vs. Tungsten Carbide) and manage the inventory of diamond saw blades and lubricants.
5. Health & Safety Leadership:
   Maintain dust extraction systems (dust collectors/baghouses) and ensure all machine guards and emergency stops are functional.
6. Sample Preparation: Have a good knowledge and have an understanding of the principles of sample data entry, technical documentation of samples, and Input sample IDs into the Laboratory Samples Register (LSR) or Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS).
7. Sample Processing: Participate in and work with the sample Preparation Geochemist in the crushing, splitting, and pulverizing of ore, soil, and rock samples according to specific particle size requirements (e.g., 95% passing 75 microns).
