Job Description
Core Responsibilities
Instruction and Curriculum
- Deliver Core Concepts:Teach a comprehensive mathematics curriculum, includingAlgebra I/II, Geometry, Pre-Calculus, Calculus, Statistics, and Trigonometry, ensuring students grasp foundational and advanced mathematical principles.
- Lesson Planning:Develop and prepare detailed, well-structured, and engaginglesson plans and instructional materialsthat align with national or local curriculum standards.
- Differentiated Instruction:Adapt teaching methodsand materials to accommodate diverse learning styles, abilities, and interests, including providing support for struggling students and challenging advanced learners.
- Technology Integration:Utilizeeducational technology, such as graphing calculators, mathematical software, and interactive whiteboards, to enhance learning and demonstrate complex concepts.
- Real-World Application:Incorporatereal-life examplesand practical problems to illustrate the relevance of mathematical concepts and foster problem-solving skills.
Assessment and Student Support
- Assessment:Create, administer, and grade various forms of assessment, includingquizzes, homework assignments, unit tests, and final examinations, to evaluate student comprehension and progress.
- Feedback and Reporting:Monitor student performanceand provide timely, constructive, and targeted feedback to support their academic growth. Maintain accurate records of grades and attendance.
- Individualized Support:Offerextra help or tutoringduring or after school hours to students requiring additional assistance or seeking deeper understanding of the material.
- Preparation for Exams:Prepare students effectively for standardized tests, college entrance exams, and advanced placement (AP) examinations.
- Classroom Management:Establish and maintain apositive, inclusive, and orderly classroom environmentthat encourages student participation, collaboration, and respect.
Departmental and Professional Duties
- Collaboration:Work collaboratively with other mathematics teachers, department heads, and school administrators to coordinate curriculum, discuss student issues, and contribute to the overall school mission.
- Parent Communication:Maintainopen and consistent communicationwith parents and guardians regarding student progress, behavioral concerns, and academic goals, including attending parent-teacher conferences.
- Professional Development:Engage in continuousprofessional development(workshops, training, reading) to stay current with best practices in math education and new developments in the field.
- Extracurricular Involvement:May supervise or coach extracurricular activities, such as aMath Club or Math Competition Team.
- Administrative Tasks:Fulfill all other faculty duties, such as supervising students during non-class periods, attending staff meetings, and serving as a form tutor or academic advisor.
Required Qualifications and Skills
- Education:Bachelor's degree (Master's preferred) inMathematics, Mathematics Education,or a closely related quantitative field.
- Certification:Valid state teachingcertification or licensurefor secondary-level mathematics.
- Content Knowledge:Deep and strong knowledge of the secondary mathematics curriculum (e.g., Algebra, Geometry, Calculus).
- Communication Skills:Excellentverbal and written communicationskills to clearly articulate complex mathematical ideas.
- Teaching Ability:Proven experience or demonstrated ability in developing engaging lesson plans and employing effective teaching strategies.
- Classroom Management:Strong organizational andclassroom management skillsto maintain a productive learning atmosphere.
- Interpersonal Skills:Patience, adaptability, and a genuinepassion for mathematicsand inspiring students.
