Job Description

Job Summary

  • An experienced person who will be responsible for overseeing the receipt, storage, and issuance of raw materials, finished goods, and spare parts within a steel company.
  • This role ensures proper inventory management to support production processes and smooth operations, while minimising losses through effective control of stock levels.

Key Responsibilities

Inventory Management:

  • Maintain accurate records of all materials, products, and equipment in the store.
  • Monitor stock levels and initiate reorders to prevent shortages or overstocking.
  • Ensure materials are properly labeled and stored to maintain quality standards.

Material Receipt and Verification:

  • Receive raw materials like iron ore, steel sheets, billets, or other inputs.
  • Inspect and verify quality and quantity against purchase orders and delivery notes.
  • Report discrepancies to the procurement or quality control team.

Issuance of Materials:

  • Issue raw materials and consumables to production departments based on approved requisitions.
  • Track materials given out and reconcile them with production reports.

Documentation and Reporting:

  • Maintain accurate documentation, such as goods received notes (GRN), stock cards, and issue vouchers.
  • Generate daily, weekly, or monthly inventory reports for management.

Safety and Compliance:

  • Ensure the store is organized, clean, and compliant with safety regulations.
  • Handle hazardous materials or chemicals used in steel production safely.

Coordination with Other Departments:

  • Liaise with procurement for replenishment of stock.
  • Work closely with production and maintenance teams to ensure timely availability of materials.

Required Skills and Competencies

  • Inventory Management Skills: Knowledge of stock control systems and tools.
  • Attention to Detail: Accuracy in counting, labeling, and recordkeeping.
  • Communication Skills: Ability to interact effectively with suppliers and internal teams.
  • IT Skills: Proficiency with inventory software or ERP systems
  • Problem-Solving Skills: Ability to address inventory discrepancies and logistics issues.
  • Safety Awareness: Knowledge of proper storage procedures for heavy and hazardous materials.
