Job Description

Purpose of the Position

  • The MEAL Intern will support the MEAL team in implementing monitoring, evaluation, accountability, and learning activities. The intern will assist in data collection, documentation, data entry, analysis support, and community feedback tracking. The role will provide practical learning experience in humanitarian monitoring systems while supporting program teams to maintain high data quality and accountability standards.

Key Roles and Responsibilities

  • Support data collection activities such as household surveys, focus group discussions, key informant interviews, and field observations.
  • Assist in registering and documenting community feedback and complaints received during field activities.
  • Support data entry, data cleaning, and data verification using tools such as KoboToolbox and Excel.
  • Assist in organizing beneficiary records and monitoring databases.
  • Support the compilation of activity data for monthly and quarterly program reports.
  • Assist in preparing simple charts, tables, and summaries for internal reports.
  • Support monitoring visits to project sites and document field observations.
  • Assist the MEAL team during baseline, midline, endline, and post distribution monitoring assessments.
  • Support documentation of lessons learned, success stories, and monitoring findings.
  • Assist in organizing project data and documentation within internal filing systems.
  • Support community awareness on feedback channels and accountability mechanisms.
  • Promote respectful communication with community members and beneficiaries.
  • Maintain confidentiality of sensitive information and comply with organizational policies.
  • Support program teams in strengthening accountability and community engagement practices.

Performance Measurement

  • The MEAL Intern will be assessed based on:

  • Required Qualifications, Experience, and Skills (Minimum)
  • Recent graduate or final year student in Statistics, Mathematics, Computer Science, Social Sciences, Development Studies, or related fields.
  • Basic understanding of data collection and monitoring processes.
  • Basic knowledge of Excel and digital data collection tools such as KoboToolbox is an advantage.
  • Strong interest in humanitarian work and monitoring systems.
  • Good communication skills.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and work with sensitive information.
  • Ability to work effectively with diverse communities.
  • Proficiency in English. Knowledge of Hausa or Kanuri is an advantage.

Preferred Qualifications and Experience

  • Internship, volunteer experience, or academic research related to community work or data collection.
  • Basic knowledge of humanitarian principles and accountability standards.
